When we were invited to come be a vendor at Rudefest, we knew we had to make something special. Ska has some excellent design motifs! I leaned heavily on my partner John Cowick's almost encyclopedic knowledge on the subject, and got quite a musical education in the process.
We wanted to create shirts that were all individually unique and truly captured the fashion essence of Ska. The oversized checkerboard screen was printed with discharge ink, essentially bleaching the dye out of the fabric instead of laying ink on top. For the graphics,
we used neon pink inks and chose to forego an underbase, instead leaning into a printerly aesthetic and letting the screens do what they may.
What resulted are a batch of shirts that we were very proud of, and the Rude kids loved! We barely left the event with a shirt saved to remember it by.
