About BMGP

Bird-Mad Girl Press is a small-batch screen printing operation based in St. Louis, MO. Driven by a blend of ancestral Boricua heritage and over twenty years combined DIY punk print making grit, we create bold, inclusive artifacts that connect the golden age of Puerto Rican serigrafía to the modern, street level hustle.

FAQs

Have Questions?

How do I care for my hand printed item?

Initially, wash on cold with no detergent, inside out or in a garment bag. Do not wash with items with buckles, buttons, or other hard pieces that can scratch and damage the print. Air dry or machine dry on gentle.

What is water-based discharge ink?

Discharge ink removes the dye from the fabric and replaces it with pigment, leaving the print feeling soft and "embedded" in the fabric rather than sitting on top like plastic.

Why does my piece look slightly different than the photo?

Every item is hand printed, and as such shifts in color, misregistration, or distressing can occur. We celebrate the imperfections of the craft, and consider each item a unique piece.

Are these mass-produced?

Absolutely not. We hand print in small batches, every piece is an "artifact". We embrace the rawness and imperfections of the handmade process.

Why the name?

Bird-Mad Girl is Kayla's chosen pseudonym and The Cure reference, whose lyrics inspired some of the first prints she made.
